TOKYO
— Around 200 people attended a public meeting
Saturday in Tokyo to call for the termination of capital
punishment, marking the Oct 10 World Day Against the Death
Penalty.
Indicating that the abolishment of the death penalty has
become an international trend, Maiko Tagusari, a
Tokyo-based lawyer, said, "It is important to urge the
United Nations to adopt a resolution in seeking a global
moratorium on executions and a commutation on death
sentences so we can put pressure on governments that
maintain capital punishment." (Kyodo News)
