TOKYO
— The Supreme Court upheld Tuesday a lower court
decision sentencing a former Chinese graduate student to
death for killing a compatriot student and her Chinese
husband in 2000 after his overtures to her were rejected.
The death sentence against Xue Song, 33, a former graduate
student at the state-run University of Tsukuba in Ibaraki
Prefecture, will now be finalized.
According to rulings by the Saitama District and Tokyo High
courts, Xue made overtures to Xu Xin, then 29, who was also
a graduate student at the same university, in July 2000. Xu
declined Xue's overtures, telling him that she was married
to Gu Jingqi, then 39, a corporate employee. Xue fatally
stabbed Xu and Gu with a survival knife at a parking lot in
Kasukabe, Saitama Prefecture, on Sept 22, 2000. (Kyodo
